Catacombs of Paris

It may seem a little strange and more than a little creepy, but a tour of the Paris Catacombs is one of the most interesting things you can do in Paris – and once you get over the weirdness of it all, it’s actually a strangely beautiful and peaceful place. The entry to the Catacombs is behind a nondescript ticket booth at #1 Avenue of Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, and after paying your entry fee (6-8 Euros), you’ll have access to the 130 step staircase that leads down to the 2km of tunnels officially open to the public. Although this is only a fraction of the Catacombs, it’s some of the most beautifully decorated and well preserved. If you want to get off the tourist trail, then this is the place to do it – and is something you’ll never forget.
